Placenta encapsulation: postpartum healing

Why consume your placenta?

Dehydrated placenta and tincture is extremely nutrient rich and helps replenish the body, and rebalance hormones in the immediate postpartum. The placenta retains pregnancy hormones (see list of hormones below), and reintroducing them to your system eases hormonal fluctuations linked to "baby blues" and, in some cases, postpartum depression.

In addition to hormones, placenta is high in iron, protein and vitamins and minerals, notably vitamin B6, essential in the making of Seratonin--the good-mood neurotransmitter. Many mothers can be low in iron immediately after birth, due to blood loss and the baby taking a supply of iron before birth.

Here's a terrific article on placenta consumption.

I offer both the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) - inspired and the Raw version of placenta encapsulation. In the TCM-inspired method, I steam your placenta with heat-providing foods (lemon, ginger, and hot red pepper) before dehydration. In the Raw version, I dehydrate your placenta directly after rinsing. Both versions contain the essential hormones, choose whichever version speaks to you!

Note: I highly recommend that GBS+ Moms choose the TCM-inspired version, as steaming will kill the GBS bacteria.

"I am so grateful to have worked with Vanessa for my placenta encapsulation. I received the pills a few days after I gave birth, when my hormones were sending me on a very emotional ride, causing me to feel fragile. Immediately upon taking the capsules I felt energetic, stable and resilient. If I forgot to take them for a day, I noticed feeling depleted and overwhelmed. They got me through the toughest postpartum phase to a place where I now feel strong and positive on my own."

How is my placenta processed? Your placenta will be rinsed, dehydrated, and encapsulated, adhering to the strictest standards of safety as set forth by OSHA and the EPA, and conforming to local health department guidelines for food preparation and safety protocols. The preparation process is always done in a sterile environment, using sterile equipment.

I bring loving care and integrity to each new mother's placenta and am passionate about its benefits. I regularly receive positive feedback about the pills and am thrilled each time I do!

It is recommended to prepare the placenta within 1-2 days of birth, and should be chilled in refrigerator until the process begins. If it's not possible, the placenta should be frozen until ready to be processed. Unless you opt to bring your placenta to my house, I will pick up your placenta from your birth place. If I am your doula, I will take it home with me.
